Matthew Gamrot believes that although he has taken a step back on his way to the UFC championship belt he is still close enough to regain his ranking soon.
Mateusz Gamrot was ranked fifth in the UFC lightweight rankings. It seemed that the Pole was just one win away from getting a chance to fight for the championship title. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and Gamrot lost on points to Dan Hooker at UFC 305.
Mateusz Gamrot gave an interview to the InTheCagePL portal. The Red Dragon and American Top Team fighter admitted that he plans to return to the octagon in December. Gamer would then like to fight a second bout in the spring of 2025. The Pole therefore has a quick plan for his next skirmishes.
– I’m going back a bit now, but as I announced, I would like to fight somewhere else this year, preferably in December. Later next year somewhere to fight in April, May. See I would be two fights ahead in a few months, as long as I win, so I’ll be back in that position quickly.
Mateusz Gamrot on the UFC ranking situation
Mateusz Gamrot analyzed the situation in the lightweight category ranking. The Pole pointed out that of the fighters ahead of him, several will crumble for sporting reasons or as a result of ending their careers.
– The ranking situation is now like this… Today they announced this Oliveira with Chandler. They will make a fight and someone will crumble already. Dustin Poirier will make a fight and he’s about to cough up. Gaethje will also do a fight and will disappear again for a year. I’m now eighth but with four in front of me you can cross out quickly because they won’t be qualified for this belt. That leaves only four, so this road really, even though it’s a little far away, it’s not so far away that I won’t get there again.
According to Matthew, although the fight for the belt has moved away, it is not at all, that far away. Gamrot will try to record more wins to quickly rebuild in the rankings.
