Mateusz Rebecki has revealed the reason for the weight limit change for his fight with Orolbai at UFC 308. UFC staff pressured the Pole to agree to raise the limit.

Mateusz Rebecki defeated Myktybek Orolbai at UFC 308 after a capital fight. The big mystery was why it turned out on the day of the weigh-in that the fighters would not fight in the lightweight category but in the catchweight up to 160 pounds.

Mateusz Rebecki decided to answer fan questions posed via social media after the UFC gala in Abu Dhabi. Of course, there was no shortage of questions about the weight cutting process.

The weight loss went phenomenally. In fact, I sat for about 30 minutes in the tub, maybe less. Only now I would like to point out that it was a catchweight at 72.5 kg. Or more… And what, the opponent was not able to do less. That’s why we set it that way.

Mateusz Rebecki admitted that he initially refused to fight Kyrgyz in the raised weight limit. However, he eventually decided to agree to the terms after strong pressure from the UFC.

– Honestly? No one informed me that there were visa problems. It was more on the penultimate day, which was the day before the weigh-in, that they informed me that Myktybek would not make the weight. And they very much wanted me to take the catchweight, where (I) initially disagreed. Later they pushed me to the wall and said that this fight would fall out, and it was (for me) very important, so I decided that it had to be taken. Also it went a little bit that way.
