Max Holloway has no intention of making excuses for his loss to Charles Oliveira. The former UFC featherweight champion believes the Brazilian did exactly what was needed to win the BMF title fight.
The bout between Max Holloway and Oliveira took place in March at UFC 326. The BMF title fight was billed as one of the most spectacular events of the year, but it turned out to be completely different from what fans had expected. “Do Bronx” relied on his wrestling and ground game for most of the fight, effectively controlling the Hawaiian. After five rounds, the judges unanimously awarded the victory to the Brazilian.
Although many fans criticized the way Oliveira secured the victory, Max Holloway holds no grudge against his opponent. In an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, he emphasized that he has no intention of complaining about his opponent’s tactics.
– To put it bluntly, I’m not the type to complain. So I’m not going to complain. Everyone keeps asking, “What do you think about it?” There’s a certain aura surrounding the BMF belt, and people are used to it, given the history of the title. But you can’t blame Charles. He stepped into the ring and simply did what he thought was necessary to win.
Holloway faces another major challenge. This Saturday at UFC 329, he’ll face Conor McGregor, who is returning to the Octagon after a few years’ hiatus. For “Blessed,” this will be an opportunity for a rematch of their first bout in 2013, when both were just starting their careers and had not yet achieved the status of global MMA stars.
Charles Oliveira, on the other hand, does not yet have a scheduled opponent. However, there is increasing talk of a possible rematch with Arman Tsarukyan. Such a bout could determine the next contender for the lightweight title, especially since the current champion, Justin Gaethje, announced in an interview with Joe Rogan that he will most likely not defend his title again until the end of 2026.
