Conor McGregor has revisited the events of UFC 329 and has serious grievances against Max Holloway. According to the Irishman, “Blessed” drew the referee’s attention to his injury too quickly, instead of taking advantage of the situation and ending the fight himself. “Notorious” makes no secret of the fact that, once he’s recovered, he wants a rematch.

McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon ended much sooner than anyone had anticipated. After a four-year hiatus, the Irishman headlined UFC 329 in a bout against Max Holloway.

Early in the fight, “Notorious” landed awkwardly after attempting a jumping kick. Despite the serious injury, he tried to continue the fight, but Holloway noticed that something was wrong with his opponent’s leg.

“Blessed” then drew referee Mike Beltran’s attention to his opponent’s problems. Shortly thereafter, the fight was stopped, and tests revealed that McGregor had suffered a serious ACL injury.

However, the Irishman later admitted that his opponent’s behavior had really surprised him.

McGregor had a bone to pick with Holloway. “The fight has only just begun.”

In an interview with Robert O’Neill, published on the MAC Energy YouTube channel, McGregor said that Holloway should act like a fighter and try to capitalize on his problems on his own.

“I’ll tell you one thing: I wasn’t the one who asked for the fight to be stopped,” McGregor said. “I wasn’t the one yelling for it to be stopped. If I’m fighting you, and you look at the referee and say, ‘Ref! Stop the fight!’, then who’s actually stopping it? Don’t stop it! Finish the f***ing fight! You’re the one yelling for it to be stopped, and the fight has barely even started.”

For McGregor, another long hiatus will be a huge blow, especially since his return after several years away was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter in his career. He, however, has no intention of giving up on his ambitious plans.

– Everything’s fine. We’re doing our part, sticking to the plan, and we’ll make sure there’s a rematch…

The Irishman admitted that the chance to get even with his rivals for past setbacks is currently one of the main reasons he wants to go through the demanding rehabilitation process again.

“I want a rematch,” McGregor continued. “That’s what drives me. I have this path ahead of me. I have a mission to accomplish. I want to go down in history as the architect of the greatest comeback in sports history.”

However, it will be a long time before “Notorious” returns to the octagon. McGregor is expected to remain out of competition until at least the summer of 2027.

Importantly, his next fight is set to be the final bout under his current contract with the UFC. “Mystic Mac,” however, has already stated that he does not intend to end his partnership with the organization, with which he has been affiliated since 2013. First, though, he must regain his health and prove that, after another serious injury, he is still capable of competing at the highest level.
