Merab Dvalishvili: “Khabib and Islam are from Dagestan, not Russia” [VIDEO]

Merab Dvalishvili has commented on Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. The Georgian says they should represent Dagestan, not Russia.

Merab Dvalishvili has made numerous statements in the past about the peoples living in the mountainous regions of the Caucasus. The UFC champion in the up to 62 kilogram category has a clear opinion on the subject.

Finally, Islam Makhachev addressed Merab’s statement. The lightweight champion said that Merab Dvalishvili has no idea about what is happening in Russia, as he lives in America. Islam was quick to point out that Dagestan is part of Russia.

Merab Dvalishvili commented on Makhachev ‘s words on Jake Shields‘ podcast. Here’s what the newly crowned champion of the cockfighting division said on the subject:

– We know that Khabib and Islam are from Dagestan. Khamzat is from Chechnya, and Movsar Evloev is from Ingushetia. They are all from small, separate countries. They are Muslims who have their own culture and traditions. We call them the peoples of the Caucasus. I don’t want to say that Russia is occupying these countries however somehow Russia has taken control of these countries and they have to represent Russia.

– When someone asks me “is Umar from Russia?” I answer that he is not from Russia, I say that he is from the Caucasus. All the peoples of the Caucasus are friends, they are tough people just like the Georgians. Umar is from Dagestan, but he represents another country, he fights under the Russian flag. Islam said they represent Russia, ok I understand that.

Merab Dvalishvili responds to Islam Makhachev and says that Dagestani people are NOT Russian:
