Michael Bisping criticized Colby Covington’s idea to clash with Sean Strickland in the middleweight category.
Colby Covington lost his fight with Joaquin Buckley in December. Chaos sought excuses after the fight, suggesting that he lost it after suffering a cut caused by a clash of heads. The bejeweled American seems to be looking for an idea to further his career.
Colby Covington, in an interview with Submission Radio, said that he could move down to the lightweight category, however, in the long run this does not seem to be a good solution, as it severely tires the body. However, the American said that he would be happy to move up to the middleweight division to fight Sean Strickland, with whom he has repeatedly challenged on social media in the past.
– The middleweight category intrigues me. The fight with Sean Strickland is interesting, he has said some things about me in the past. In my opinion, he is no one special, he has a straight punch, he has a front kick, however, if you take that away from him, he is limited in his attacks. He’s just a kickboxer with good cardio, I don’t see any threats from his side.
Covington’s statement was addressed by Michael Bisping. The former UFC middleweight champion on his channel on the youtube platform said directly.
– Colby Covington vs Sean Strickland, first of all Colby is simply too small.
Michael Bisping elaborated significantly on his statement, mentioning that Sean Strickland is at the top of the middleweight category and could regain the belt next month. Bisping criticized Covington’s plans.
– I do not believe that Colby will fight Sean Strickland in the near future. After all, if Strickland beats Du Plessis at UFC 312 and regains the belt there is no chance of Covington becoming a contender and fighting for the title right away.
Earl also didn’t forget that Covington, who was the interim champion of the up to 77 kilograms division has already been given many chances in the past to reach for a full-fledged title. According to Bisping, there is no chance that anyone in the UFC office will consider Covington as a contender in the higher division anytime soon after the weaker results.
– He already had his chances, he fought many championship fights. He fought Kamaru and lost in the fifth round, then he won against Woodley and they gave him a duel with Kamaru again. When he won against Masvidal he got the fight for the belt again. You had three championship fights in the welterweight category, now you don’t get a fight for the middleweight division belt right away.
