Michael Chandler decided to assess Conor McGregor’s chances of returning to the octagon of the UFC organization.
Michael Chandler is a former champion of the Bellator organization, who moved to the UFC to seek further challenges. So far Iron Mike has not managed to achieve great success in the best MMA league in the world, however, he gives exciting fights, which fans strongly appreciate.
Speaking of Chandler, it is impossible not to mention Conor McGregor, whom the American was scheduled to face at the UFC 303 gala, but the Irishman then withdrew from the duel due to a broken toe bone in his foot.
Michael Chandler gave an interview to MMAFighting reporters. During the interview, Chandler was asked whether he still believes in the Irishman’s return to the UFC octagon. Mike admitted that purely from the heart he wishes it for Conor while approaching the subject sensibly and using reason he doesn’t give it much chance.
– Guided by his heart yes he will return. I think he wants to fight. He certainly doesn’t want to close his legacy like this. In his last appearance he suffered an injury, measuring himself against Dustin Poirier at the time. He later exclaimed loudly that he would score the greatest comeback in combat sports history. Then he was with me on The Ultimate Fighter program, signed a contract to fight and withdrew due to injury. So much for my opinion purely from the heart.
– On the other hand, my head thinks differently as if I had to bet on whether Conor would return I would say no. There is a very small, even minimal chance of that.
Michael Chandler will return to competition on April 12 at the UFC 314 gala in Miami. The American will fight a bout with Paddy Pimblett. This will be a very important clash for Chandler, as a defeat will basically rule him out of big fights, while pushing him towards the end of the lightweight category rankings.
