Michael Chandler challenged Arman Tsarukyan to a fight, and the latter quickly responded by sticking a pin in the American.
Arman Tsarukyan was scheduled to appear in the evening fight of the UFC 311 gala, but the Armenian withdrew from the bout on the day of the weigh-in, suggesting that he had suffered a back injury in the process of making weight. Replacing the Armenian on the schedule for Saturday’s UFC gala was Renato Moicano, who promptly lost to the champion.
Michael Chandler wanted to take advantage of the situation and catch up with his next fight in the octagon. Iron posted a post in which he addressed Arman Tsarukyan. The American wrote.
– If you don’t show up for a fight then you don’t get a clash for the belt. Beat me if you can.
Arman Tsarukyan was very quick to clarify whom he had in mind and, in the process, responded to Dana White, who said that the Armenian would not get a fight for the belt immediately upon his return.
– I agree with Dana. As soon as my back heals I’ll be ready to prove I’m a number one contender by winning against anyone they put in front of me. A five-round fight with Charles Oliveira makes the most sense.
Of course, it should be kept in mind that the lightweight division will not stand still in Arman Tsarukyan’s absence, and it is possible that completely different names will appear in the game for the top positions. For the time being, therefore, there is nothing to look too far into the future.
The mere fact that Tsarukyan is currently injured and will be paused, and will then fight another opponent, may open the door for a couple of fighters to clash with Islam Makhachev. In the case of the champion, however, it must be remembered that Ramadan is approaching, so Islam will probably not return to the octagon until the vacations at the earliest.
