Michael Page makes no secret of his disappointment with the way his UFC career ended. “MVP” had hoped that, after posting a 5-1 record, he would sit down with the organization’s leadership to discuss a new contract. Instead, the UFC decided to end their partnership without much negotiation, which the British fighter took as a sign of disrespect.

Michael Page’s last fight under his current contract took place in early September at UFC Paris. Even before his bout with Nursulton Ruziboev, questions were being raised as to whether even a victory would be enough for “MVP” to remain with the organization.

Page won by unanimous decision after three rounds, although the fight itself wasn’t particularly spectacular. Ultimately, it turned out to be his last appearance under the UFC banner.

Dana White later told the media that the matchmakers were not interested in continuing to work with the British fighter and had decided not to offer him a new contract.

Michael Page: I thought we’d sit down at the table

On *The Ariel Helwani Show*, Page admitted that this turn of events had surprised him. After all, “MVP” had ended his run in the UFC with a 5-1 record and had expected at least some discussions about continuing his tenure with the organization.

“I had goals to achieve, and no matter what, I won my fights—and to me, that means you should be able to stay. That’s what this game is all about—success should lead to new opportunities. That’s why I always believed we’d sit down at the table together,” Page said.

The British fighter even allowed for the possibility that the UFC might offer him significantly worse financial terms. However, he didn’t expect that there would be virtually no talks at all.

– I thought something like this might happen—that they’d say, “Listen, we can sign a new contract with you, but for a lot less money,” and then we’d start negotiations from there. I didn’t expect, however, that it would be handled this way. To be honest, I took it as a pretty big lack of respect.

Page noted that he would have found it much easier to accept the UFC’s decision if someone from the organization had simply called him and told him directly that they did not plan to continue working with him. At the same time, “MVP” spoke very highly of the UFC staff working behind the scenes.

Page’s relationship with the organization wasn’t particularly rocky, but the Brit had already made no secret of his dissatisfaction with the way he was being portrayed.

Among other things, the March bout against Sam Patterson came as quite a surprise. That fight, too, ended with a points victory for “Venom” and wasn’t particularly exciting.

Ultimately, Page is leaving the UFC after six fights and just one loss. Despite his very strong record, however, the organization has decided not to continue working with him.
