Nassourdine Imavov awaited the outcome at the UFC 312 gala, after the defeat of Sean Strickland, the Frenchman was promoted to the first place of the middle category.
Nassourdine Imavov defeated Israel Adesanya on Saturday, February 1. Shortly after the gala in Saudi Arabia, the Frenchman recorded a rise of three positions and was ranked second in the UFC middleweight rankings just behind American Sean Strickland.
This past weekend was the UFC 312 gala, where Dricus Du Plessis dealt with the aforementioned Strickland. The African defended the belt which meant that Sean had to score a drop in the rankings. It was thanks to the American’s slide a position lower that Nassourdine Imavov became the new No. 1 of the middleweight category.
A native of Dagestan, the fighter seems to be the biggest winner of the first weeks of 2025. With an impressive win over Izzy and successful settlements in other fights, Nassourdine Imavov has every right to claim a fight for the championship belt.
The Frenchman commented on his situation over the weekend and indicated that if the UFC decides to match Du Plessis against Khamzat Chimaev now he will simply wait for his chance and face the winner of that clash.
However, it should be remembered that the UFC is not going to Chechnya, and will probably come to the Middle East in autumn. Therefore, it is possible that earlier there will be a gala in France, which can easily be filled with strong names. The UFC may organize a Du Plessis vs Imavov clash, especially since so far the Seine River has hosted only Fight Night events, and there has never been a numbered, big PPV gala there.
