The commotion surrounding the big fight in Newark still hasn’t quieted down. This time, one of the most uncompromising fighters in UFC history spoke out.
Nate Diaz commented on the behavior of Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland after the UFC 328 gala, and did not leave a dry eye on them. As a reminder, in the fight of the evening Strickland defeated Chimaev after five rounds of war, recording on his account the first defeat of his career. The fight itself lived up to the fans’ expectations, but what happened before and after the clash caused quite a controversy.
Nate Diaz doesn’t believe in conflict between Chimaev and Strickland
Just hours before entering the cage, the fighters exchanged sharp, personal verbal blows. Meanwhile, already during and after the fight, the atmosphere changed dramatically. There was the nailing of gloves, mutual respect, and even a symbolic end to the conflict when Chimaev wanted to put the belt on Strickland’s hips.
This turn of events did not convince Diaz. In an interview before his return to the gala card with the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano duel, he clearly suggested that the whole story might have been nothing more than a game for the public:
– They faked it all. First the talking, the challenges, and then suddenly the hugs and great friendship. To me it’s artificial. I’m not going to do something like that. I’m not going to create a fake conflict, I’m just going to go out and do the job,” Diaz said, cursing every other word. Vulgarities, however, were left out.
– I’m not here to chat. I don’t screw people, and they did. I wouldn’t be able to live with something like that,” he added.
It is worth recalling that Diaz was already scheduled to cross gloves with Chimaev at UFC 279, but the fight did not take place due to his rival’s weight problems. Eventually, the American faced Tony Ferguson and ended the duel by submission.
