Khamzat Chimaev has decided to make major changes in his preparations, the fighter has changed his head coach ahead of UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi.
Khamzat Chimaev was scheduled to face Robert Whittaker in June. Unfortunately, he dropped out of that bout due to health problems. Matchmakers of the UFC organization, at Whittaker’s request, have re-scheduled the fight for the UFC 308 gala, which will take place on October 26 in Abu Dhabi.
Khamzat Chimaev gave an interview to the Red Corner MMA portal, in which he told that he made a very important decision before his preparations. Chimaev decided to expand his training staff, and most importantly, he went under the care of another head coach. The Chechen recalled his recent preparations.
– The main goal during these preparations is to allow adequate rest. In the past, I would go to training and stay in the room until I fell from exhaustion. After that, however, I would land in the hospital. Last time during the preparation camp I was hospitalized three times. My immune system simply collapsed and I was seriously ill.
Khamzat then revealed the name of his new coach. He became Salim Nutsalkhanov, the trainer who guided Buvaisar Saitiev, a three-time gold medalist in freestyle wrestling.
– Now I have a better approach. I work with good coaches. Salim Nutsalkhanov has raised many champions. He was the one who worked with Buvaisar Saitiev before the Beijing Olympics. I think that by surrounding myself with such people I will take a step forward.
