Paddy Pimblett has once again addressed the possibility of a fight with Ilia Topuria. The Englishman admitted that he would be eager to face the former UFC champion, but at the same time, he doesn’t believe their bout will take place this year.
The two fighters have been at odds for years, with their conflict escalating repeatedly during press conferences and media appearances. There has been no shortage of barbs, heated exchanges, and even scuffles. Recently, both Pimblett and Topuria lost to Justin Gaethje. This scenario means their paths may soon cross, especially since both will be looking to get back on the winning track and re-enter the race for the top spots in the lightweight division.
In a conversation with Demetrious Johnson, Paddy Pimblett made no secret of the fact that he’s interested in a fight with Ilia Topuria. The Englishman admitted that he would gladly welcome the former lightweight champion back into the Octagon and settle their long-standing feud not with words, but with fists.
“The Baddy,” however, believes that such a scenario is still some time away. In an interview with Spinnin Backfist, he explained why, in his opinion, Topuria won’t fight again before the end of 2026.
– Everyone keeps saying he should face Topuria in his next fight, but that guy’s face is a mess. He won’t be fighting again this year, and I want to have one more fight this year.
For Pimblett, however, his next challenge will be a completely different opponent. This weekend at UFC 329, the Englishman will face Benoît Saint-Denis. A victory over the tough Frenchman could bring him even closer to the biggest fights in the lightweight division.
If “The Baddy” maintains his good form and Topuria recovers from his loss to Justin Gaethje, their long-awaited showdown could become one of the hottest fights the UFC could put together next year. The long-standing animosity between the fighters means there will certainly be no shortage of excitement, both leading up to the event and once the Octagon doors close.
