Piotr Kuberski spoke at greater length about the end of his collaboration with Andrzej Kościelski. The interim KSW champion explained what led to his split with the head coach of Ankos MMA Poznań and emphasized that, despite the decision, they both still respect each other.
The popular “Qbear” will compete for the undisputed middleweight title later this year. At XTB KSW 124, interim champion Piotr Kuberski will face Paweł Pawlak in a unification bout for the championship belts.
For Kuberski, this will be one of the most important performances of his career so far. However, he is beginning his preparations without Andrzej Kościelski, with whom he had a very close professional relationship for a long time.
Piotr Kuberski explained his split from Andrzej Kościelski
As is well known, since the KSW interim champion’s last fight, Kuberski has no longer been working with Andrzej Kościelski. During his appearance on the Oktagon Live show, “Qbear” spoke at greater length about the circumstances behind the end of his collaboration with the head coach of Ankos MMA Poznań.
The problems began during Kościelski’s forced absence. Kuberski then began working with other coaches who assisted him during preparations. However, relations between this coaching staff and Kościelski were not the best.
When the incumbent head coach was able to return to work, he set a specific condition for Kuberski. The player was to stop working with the other coaches.
– The coach said he’d be willing to work with me, but only once I leave those other coaches, because they have a slightly different view of me. The coach also has a slightly different take on me, and of course I understand that, but when the coach wasn’t around, those guys also helped me—like Paweł Korowczyk, Koperski, Bilman, and Bartczak, ” said Kuberski.
However, “Qbear” did not want to turn his back on the people who had helped him while Kościelski was away. As he himself pointed out, he would consider such behavior inconsiderate toward the people with whom he had already done a large part of the work.
– These were people I couldn’t just leave behind, because that would have been unprofessional on my part. At the time, when the coach wasn’t there, I’d already been training with these guys for quite a while, and now I’d have to say, “Listen, the coach is here, he’s back, and he doesn’t want to work with you.” And that’s where I simply couldn’t agree to it. The coach said, “Fine, then I’m not going out there with you.” And I respected his opinion, too, because right up until the very end, I wanted him to be my head coach; I wanted him to be with me,” he added.
Ultimately, the two sides were unable to find a solution that would allow them to continue their collaboration. Kuberski noted, however, that there was no personal conflict between him and Kościelski.
“Our approaches have drifted apart a bit, but we both respect each other, we both like each other, and I have absolutely no hard feelings toward the coach. We just couldn’t see eye to eye—that’s the short version. And that’s it,” Kuberski added.
A new phase of “Qbear’s” career is thus beginning. His top priority now is his bout against Paweł Pawlak at XTB KSW 124, which will finally determine who is the undisputed KSW middleweight champion.
