Patricio Pitbull, Patchy Mix and Corey Anderson the Bellator champions are the next fighters who have decided to openly criticize the PFL for their lack of fights.
Patricio Pitbull is undoubtedly the most notorious of the fighters who decided to heavily criticize the PFL over the weekend. This organization merged with Bellator while taking over the contracts of all fighters. However, it appears that the Americans are not coping with providing enough fights for all contracted fighters.
Patricio Pitbull has commented extensively on his current situation. The Bellator featherweight champion posted several lengthy posts.
– I haven’t fought since March, and I wanted to do three fights this year. I was told to wait until December 31, that I would fight then, and suddenly I found out from articles posted online that the fighter I was supposed to fight had another opponent.
– I was told that things didn’t work out in Japan, that it wasn’t their fault. So I ask why don’t you guys do a gala somewhere else? What is an organization that can’t even put together a fighter for two fights in a year? Some of the Bellator guys didn’t fight at all in 2024. It was a great organization before and everything was going great, I’m worried about the future of MMA as a whole. In the past, there was never a situation where galas or shows were canceled and we were not given a reason and plans for the future.
– Even regional or local federations already have events scheduled until April 2025. The merger of the PFL and Bellator is a total disaster. We have to listen to the bosses talking about how they are paying millions to retired fighters who are coming back for one fight while 90% of us are basically fired or hearing that you have to change your contract to a $30,000 base and another for winning.
Patchy Mix is the current champion of the Bellator organization in the bantamweight category. Undefeated for seven fights, the American was scheduled to defend his title at a November gala in Paris, but the event was unexpectedly canceled, suggesting that the fights would be moved to a later date.
Patchy Mix has openly criticized the PFL organization, which absorbed Bellator and, after the takeover, has been putting together fighter fights less and less frequently.
– I’ve been hitching a ride in training for the last six months for nothing. I’m at the peak of my career and my fight in November was canceled. Now I’ve been told that I won’t fight at the January gala in Dubai. I am the best in the world and I want to prove it in the cage!
In a similar vein, Corey Anderson, that is Bellator’s champion in the lightheavyweight division, spoke out. The American posted a short entry on the X platform, where he wrote.
– I’m aging like a hot cheese waiting here for the PFL to call me. But don’t get me wrong, I’m ready to defend my belt all the time regardless of whether my opponent is someone young or old.
Since Bellator was absorbed by the PFL, the number of the former organization’s galas has been decreasing year by year. Last year, when CEO Scott Coker was still at the helm of Bellator, thirteen events were held, while in 2024 there were only five Bellator MMA galas.
It’s no wonder, then, that stars who fight for top targets are frustrated that the big-money boasting PFL organization can’t put together at least two fights a year for them. Industry fans and experts alike expect that Bellator may soon be history.
