Rębecki broke his silence after his UFC victory. “It was a very difficult time for me.”

Mateusz Rębecki spoke for the first time following his spectacular victory at the UFC event in Belgrade. The Polish fighter made no secret of the fact that the past few months have been extremely challenging for him, and that his win over Kyle Prepolec means much more to him than simply adding another victory to his record.

He went into Saturday’s “Rebeasti” gala at a difficult point in his career. He had suffered three consecutive losses, but even before his penultimate fight, he decided to make a major change and began working with Dawid Pepłowski at Octopus in Łódź. This time, both had completed a full training cycle, which translated into the Pole’s excellent form. From the very first seconds, Rębecki set a fast pace and overwhelmed Kyle Prepolec, ending the bout by TKO in the opening round.

“Rebeasti” reflected on a turning point in his career

A few dozen hours after the event in Belgrade, Mateusz Rębecki posted a lengthy message on social media. First, he thanked his coaches and the people with whom he had been preparing for the fight, emphasizing that the changes he had decided to make were beginning to yield tangible results.

– I can finally take a deep breath and say a few words. First of all, I’d like to thank my coaching staff—they’re great, and together we make a tight-knit team. I’m glad things are looking this way now. I’ve made a lot of changes, and as you’ve seen for yourselves, they’ve yielded positive results. Now we’ll have more space, and I think we’ll be able to bring more to the cage.

Polak also admitted that behind the scenes he was struggling with problems the fans knew nothing about. As he noted, it was precisely at that time that the support of his loved ones proved to be especially important.

– Second, it was a really tough time for me; from the outside, it might have looked great, but only from the outside. I’m tough and I can get through anything, but it still weighed on me the whole time. Surround yourselves with good people; they’ll always be there to offer good advice or a word of encouragement.

Rębecki also noted that his approach to his career has changed over time. His own athletic development has become increasingly important to him, rather than just the logo of the organization he fights for.

– Third, I’m glad I can continue to pursue my dreams and that this journey is still going strong, but I’m starting to realize that not everything revolves around those three letters, and even if they were something other than UFC, I still think I bring my skills to the cage, not a logo; I want to work on that some more; it’ll let me clear my head completely and just enjoy the sport.

At the end of his post, “Rebeasti” thanked everyone who had supported him in recent months, assuring them that they, too, could count on his help.

After his victory in Belgrade, the Polish fighter has no intention of slowing down. In a post-fight interview, he challenged Benoit Saint-Denis to a bout. Although such a matchup would undoubtedly electrify fans, it seems unlikely that the Frenchman would decide to accept an offer to fight a lower-ranked opponent.
