Reinier De Ridder stopped Bo Nickal’s hype train and knocked out the American with powerful punches and knees to the torso in the second fight of the evening at UFC Des Moines.
Reinier De Ridder and Bo Nickal faced off in the second fight of the evening at the UFC gala in Des Moines, Iowa. The duel was contracted for three rounds at the middleweight category limit. The experienced former ONE double champion announced that he would prove his superiority over the American.
Surprisingly in the US, the favorite of the clash was undefeated Bo Nickal. Nevertheless, De Ridder showed class and led after the first round. The fighters started the second round with an exchange of punches. Bo Nickal tried to press his rival to the net and work to move the fight to the mat. Reinier turned the situation around and delivered the first blow with a knee to the torso, which deprived the American Top Team representative of a bit of oxygen.
After a moment of clinching, in which Nickal worked to bring the fight to the mat, De Ridder brilliantly attacked with a series of three punches with knees in a row. The last of these knocked Bo Nickal to the net where he began to walk off to the side escaping from the sprawling Dutchman.
De Ridder, however, was not going to stop and again attacked with knees, adding short blows to the torso and head of his opponent. Eventually the matter was settled by another knee, after which Nickal simply knelt under the net and was unable to continue the duel.
Reinier de Ridder stopped Bo Nickal’s hype train with this win, and at the same time proved that he is able to surprise his opponent not only with his ground techniques, but also with impressive standup attacks.
After the victory, De Ridder said that since he managed to beat the best American wrestler it was now time to beat the best American striker, which he called Sean Strickland.
