

Robert Whittaker confirmed the fatal injury he suffered in his fight with Chimaev at UFC 308, and the former UFC champion faces a long break from competing.
Robert Whittaker lost in the second fight of the evening of the UFC 308 gala. “Reaper” was not the favorite of the duel with Khamzat Chimaev. The fight was a one-sided spectacle, and Chimaev recorded a win in the UFC octagon after a pressure on his opponent’s jaw.
Unfortunately, as a result of Khamzat’s attack, Whittaker suffered a very serious injury. The Australian confirmed the injury on his social media. Although after the fight there were immediate reports of a broken jaw, Whittaker corrected the news.
– Thank you all for your expressions of support. Sometimes this is how it ends, however, it’s just hard work. A big congratulations to Khamzat he was clearly better this evening. I felt great, I was well prepared and ready for the fight. My jaw is ok however my teeth have moved backwards. This is a good excuse to fix them now (laughs). I am disappointed, but I will come back stronger.
Robert Whittaker had hoped that a victory in his bout with Khamzat Chimaev would allow him to return to the fray for the middleweight championship belt. After the fight with the Chechen, however, he faces not only a drop in the rankings, but also a long recovery.
The Australian noted that he now intends to spend time with his family and stressed that although this is another step back and the current situation is not dissimilar to the one in the past.
