The list of payouts after the MVP MMA 1 gala has seen the light of day. The documents released by the California State Athletic Commission have caused quite a stir in the MMA community, with the most excitement surrounding the earnings of the event’s biggest stars and the amount attributed to Salahdine Parnasse.
The fight of the evening of the gala was a clash between two legends of women’s MMA – Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Both fighters have been out of the regular sporting rhythm for years, but their names still have huge media value. According to published figures, Rousey, who needed just 17 seconds for victory, was expected to earn more than $2 million. Gina Carano, on the other hand, was expected to receive just over a million.
Also on the payroll was Francis Ngannou, whose payout was expected to be around $1.5 million. Among fans and experts, however, Salahdine Parnasse’s earnings caused the biggest surprise. The Frenchman took down Kenneth Cross at the gala without much trouble, but according to documents he was to receive only $70,000.
Compared to the biggest stars of the event, it looks very modest, especially considering the status of the former KSW double champion and one of the best fighters in Europe. Parnasse himself decided to comment on the matter on social media.
Salahdine Parnasse reacts to the payroll
The Frenchman referred to the published amounts on X (formerly Twitter) with a short, ironic post.
– I called my accountant and he doesn’t believe it either.
Journalist Artur Mazur also took an interest in the topic, and after discussions with the fighter’s entourage, he allegedly determined that the quoted amount was not in line with reality. Pawel Kowalik of MMA Cartel also spoke in the discussion.
– That’s how much he has on his contract for the fight, that’s what the commission published. They were supposedly going to show the UFC how it’s done, and here it turns out that they paid a bunch of colts $40,000 each, and that’s it from these big financial revolutions. If anyone thinks there’s 5x that much sideways, they’re handicapped,” he wrote in response to editor Mazur’s post.
The publication of the payroll has reignited the discussion regarding the real salaries of MMA fighters. Many fans expected that the new organization would be able to offer much more money, especially to established fighters. Meanwhile, the documents presented by the commission raised more questions than answers.
