Sean Brady is considering a weight category change after his defeat to Michael Morales. The American is thinking of dropping down to the lightweight division.
Sean Brady suffered a quick loss to Michael Morales at UFC 322, and the American was hoping that a win over the undefeated Ecuadorian would finally give him a pass to fight for the UFC welterweight championship belt.
That’s not going to happen, however, and that now leaves the excellent grappler with quite a nut to crack. Sean Brady, on The BradyBagz Show podcast, admitted that he is not tall, and admitted that the thought of dropping down to a lower division has come up.
– My size, I’m one of the smaller welterweights. If you look at the top guys now, all these guys are tall. A trial move down to the lightweight division is something I might have to do. I know it would be very difficult. In my case it’s not about the strength aspects because I’m able to dominate the heavyweights in that respect.
Sean Brady mentioned that other fighters in the welterweight category have far better physical conditions. He also revealed Michael Morales’ weight the day after the weigh-in.
– I know that I would have done better with fighters of similar dimensions to me. Morales is a degeneration, they weighed him later on the backstage and he weighed, as much as 95 kilograms. My regular weight is 88 kilograms, I eat healthy, but the fact is also that I eat a lot. I think that I would have to keep a lower weight outside of the starting period, and that would make it easier for me to go down to the lightweight division later.
For the time being, Brady has not indicated whether he will try to move down to the lightweight category in his first fight after losing to Morales. Much will probably depend on what offers the fighter receives.
