Sean O’Malley defeated Song Yadong after a judges’ decision at UFC 324. The American challenged Petr Yan after the victory.

Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong faced off in the second fight of the evening at UFC 324 in Las Vegas. The duel was contracted in the bantamweight division limit. The former UFC champion knew he had to win the fight against the Chinese to stay in the game for the belt. Song, on the other hand, was setting himself up for the most important win of his career, which could even secure him a title shot.

Sean O’Malley is undoubtedly the far more recognizable of the two participants in the co-main event of UFC 324. The American has already been a champion, knows the taste of gold and has made a number of changes in preparation to return to the throne.

Sean O’Malley started the clash with low kicks. Song responded by enveloping the former champion’s kicking leg. Nice offensive action by Yadong, who entered the American with a kickboxing combination. A good spin by O’Malley. After a while Sean hits with a good long straight. Both fighters are doing a lot of touchdowns, but so far little offensive action is coming out of it. Lots of stopping kicks from O’Malley. Song tries to impose pressure, but at this point he only hits with low kicks. The Chinese fighter ends the round on top on the ground after a successful takedown.

Song tried to attack with a spinning backfist, but O’Malley easily dodged the attack. The American is clearly keeping the Chinese man at bay. Lots of front kicks. Good left straight from Sean, after which Song moves for an overthrow. Yadong cleverly digs into the thigh of O’Malley, who is trying to stay in the stand-up under the net at all costs. Song, however, successfully moves his rival to the mat and attacks with ground and pound. The fighters returned to the stand-up, where Song hit with a strong left hook. A good right from the Chinese fighter, O’Malley tries to counter however it looks like he has lost a bit of his speed.

Song Yadong continues the onslaught with kicks, but also hits with his fists. O’Malley, on the other hand, looks as if he wants to hunt for counterpunches. The Chinese, however, rocks and moves in with a left hook. Sean hits with a good stopping left. Good, accurate punches by O’Malley, to which Yadong responds with two short, quick punches. Sean O’Malley brilliantly defended the overthrow and rebuked the Chinese with accurate punches. Strong knee of the American. Sean O’Malley defeated Song Yadong by unanimous decision of the judges.
