Sean Strickland and Anthony Hernandez will face each other in the evening fight of the UFC gala in Houston. Although it will not be a numbered event it will take place in a 20,000-seat arena.
Recently Sean Strickland informed his fans that he had received an offer to fight Anthony Hernandez at the UFC 325 gala in Sydney. The American openly admitted that he turned down the offer because he wasn’t going to fight on Australian soil in his first post-suspension bout, where he would have had to hand over the lion’s share of the paycheck for taxes.
Sean Strickland commented with such words on the offer for a skirmish with Fluffy, making it clear that he is willing to do it, provided it takes place in the US.
– Good news, my suspension ends in 10 days. Was this time weak for me? Yes it was, but now I need 8, max 10 weeks and I can fight. Well, and I said “no” when it comes to performing at this Australian gala. Australia, I love you all, but I don’t have medical insurance, so you want me to fly to Australia in my first fight back and give 50% of my paycheck to your insurance? I won’t do that k**wa, I don’t want that and Fluffy doesn’t want that either. There won’t be this fight in Australia, but I like the idea of this clash, I’m American so let’s make it in the USA.
The former UFC champion’s wish was quickly granted, and at Saturday’s gala in Las Vegas, the organization officially announced that Sean Strickland and Anthony Hernandez will meet on February 21 in the evening fight of the UFC’s Houston gala.
Although it will not be a numbered gala, it will undoubtedly be a major event. This is evidenced by the choice of the arena for the fighters, which will be the Toyota Center. This arena can accommodate 19,000 fans during concerts and more than 18,000 during games of the Houston Rockets team in the NBA league. This means that by putting together the top fighters of the middleweight division, the UFC organization is counting on huge gate receipts.
