Shavkat Rakhmonov is open to fighting the former champion of the UFC organization. Negotiations are currently underway for the Kazakh to remain on the UFC 310 gala schedule.
Shavkat Rakhmonov was scheduled to face Belal Muhammad on December 7. Unfortunately, the welterweight champion fell off the schedule of the UFC 310 gala. This means that the Kazakh was not only left without an opponent, but also lost the chance to win the belt this year.
Rakhmonov was an online guest on the program hosted by Ariel Helwani. Sayat Abdrakhmanov, or Shavkat’s manager, joined the discussion. Sayat not only translated the statement of the UFC‘s top welterweight fighter, but also threw in three cents from himself.
– I want to stay on the UFC 310 fight card if the interim championship belt is at stake. I think Kamaru Usman is the toughest opponent and I know he is ready to jump on the schedule.
– This is how negotiations with the UFC are going on. We have given our matchmakers, I know that they are talking to someone while I cannot confirm that it is Usman. We don’t know that.
Kamaru Usman has yet to fight at all in 2024. The Nigerian has a series of three defeats in a row. In two of the bouts he lost after majority decisions. Usman’s last fight was in the middleweight category when he jumped in as a replacement for the injured Paulo Costa.
The Kazakh and the Nigerian know each other well from the mat of Team Kill Clif CF. If a clash between Rakhmonov and Usman were to take place, it would clarify for a period of time which of the fighters of this club is the best in the division up to 77 kilograms. Next in line could be Ian Machado Garry, who also spars for this club while training in the US.
