Szymon Kołecki knocked out Marcin Łazarz in a rematch bout and became the new Babilon MMA champion in the light heavyweight division.
The Babilon 55 gala took place on Saturday night in Radom, and the eyes of MMA fans in Poland were on the rematch bout between Marcin Łazarz and Szymon Kołecki. The stake of the duel was the championship belt of the light heavyweight division. In the first clash Lazarz was the winner, sending the Olympic gold medalist to the boards in the second round.
At the beginning of the rematch, it seemed that there might be a repeat performance. Szymon Kołecki focused mainly on low kicks and straights, while Marcin Łazarz was more active in the stand-up and hit more often. The MMA veteran’s punches reached the side of the head of the representative of the Wilanów Martial Arts Academy. At one point it seemed that Łazarz wired Kolecki, however, the latter managed to save himself.
The situation changed in the third round when Szymon Kołecki hit with boxing punches and then broke Łazarz’s defense with a powerful knee, after which the champion slumped to the mat. Kolecki got his rival on the ground where he showered him with powerful ground and pound, and the referee had no choice but to step in between the fighters to stop the duel and spare Łazarz from losing his health.
Szymon Kołecki became the new Babilon MMA champion in the light heavyweight division thanks to his win. This is the biggest success in Kołecki’s MMA career.
