Szymon Kołecki commented on Iwo Baraniewski’s rapidly rising career. The Babilon MMA champion makes no secret of the fact that he sees enormous potential in the young fighter, but in his opinion, the real tests are yet to come.
Kołecki has been one of Poland’s top heavyweight fighters for years and currently holds the Babilon MMA championship belt. It was under the banner of this organization that Iwo Baraniewski also took his first steps in professional MMA before getting the chance to compete in the UFC.
Since his debut in the world’s largest organization, “Rudy” has remained undefeated. He has three wins to his credit. First, he fought an exciting, twist-filled bout against his first opponent, and then he added two more wins to his record, confirming that he has found his place in the UFC.
Despite a great start to his career overseas, Szymon Kołecki believes that Baraniewski’s opponents so far do not yet allow for a clear assessment of his place among the world’s elite. In an interview with FightSportPL, he admitted that it’s best to hold off on making any final judgments for now.
– I can’t really judge him, because I think that first UFC fighter was good—they had a round where one guy went down, then the other went down—and it seems like that guy was at a good level, even though I’ve never seen him, but according to people who follow the sport more closely, he was apparently good. The ones who came after him, however, aren’t the kind of fighters who really test anyone.
– One was on his way out of the UFC, and the other was a month after his fight and seemed to have injured the leg that had been kicked. Besides, his record didn’t really speak in his favor. At Babylon, Baraniewski also never fought anyone good, so I think he has huge potential— his punch is very powerful, but I’ll have to wait to see him face a decent opponent—or even a few—because one or two fights aren’t enough to judge whether he’s definitely very good. It seems to me that he has a lot of potential, but I think the real tests are still ahead of him,” he said in an interview with FightSportPL.
Everything seems to indicate that this will happen very soon. Although Baraniewski himself had recently suggested that he wasn’t planning his next fight until the end of the year, his manager, Artur Gwóźdź, has provided new information. According to this information, the Polish fighter will return to the Octagon much sooner, and his next opponent is expected to be a fighter ranked in the top 15 of the UFC rankings. Such a bout will show just how close “Rudy” is to the very elite of his weight class.
