Szymon Kołecki spoke out following Arkadiusz Wrzosek’s high-profile loss at the XTB KSW 119 event. The former Olympic champion disagreed with the view that the outcome of the fight was primarily determined by Stefan Vojčák’s weight advantage.
Arkadiusz Wrzosek made his final appearance at the XTB KSW 119 event in Radom. His opponent was Stefan Vojčák, whom many fans and experts had written off as a loser even before he stepped into the cage. However, reality turned out to be quite different. “Mutant” first took down the WCA Fight Team representative, then took the fight to the ground, and ultimately finished it with a spectacular submission using a chest choke.
After the fight, many comments suggested that Vojčák’s physical advantage was the deciding factor. Szymon Kołecki took a different view of the entire bout; in an interview on the FightSportPL channel, he pointed primarily to the difference in skills in specific areas of MMA.
– If Arek had kept his distance, stayed on his feet, and avoided getting clinched, that weight difference wouldn’t have mattered much. Of course, his weight helped Vojcak with the choke itself, but above all, he had better skills in the clinch, wrestling, and on the ground. This was evident in his subsequent submission attempts. You can’t attribute everything solely to a 15-kilogram weight advantage,” said Kołecki.
The former Olympic champion pointed out that Wrzosek made a mistake by engaging in aspects of the fight where his opponent felt much more confident. According to Kołecki, maintaining the proper distance could have completely changed the course of the bout.
Interestingly, Szymon Kołecki himself has long been linked to a return to KSW. Financial issues remain the main obstacle, but it’s no secret that the former Olympic champion is still in touch with Martin Lewandowski. So it’s possible that in the future we’ll see him back in the octagon of Poland’s largest MMA organization.
