Michał Oleksiejczuk could be returning to the UFC octagon very soon. “Husarz” revealed that he had received a concrete offer for his next fight. However, the Polish fighter decided to turn it down. It’s all because of a nagging injury to his right hand, which he finally intends to address.
The popular “Husarz” has already fought 19 bouts under the UFC banner, though one of them ended as a “No Contest.” Oleksiejczuk initially competed in the light heavyweight division, but he currently fights in the middleweight division. The Polish fighter has 10 wins in the world’s largest MMA organization, eight of which came by knockout.
Not long ago, “Husarz’s” situation looked completely different. Defeats against Michel Pereira, Kevin Holland, and the one-eyed Shara Magomedov led Oleksiejczuk to make a major change in his training regimen. The Polish fighter joined Fighting Nerds, and this move quickly yielded the expected results.
Oleksiejczuk bounced back with three consecutive decisive victories. It wasn’t until the June event in Baku that Abus Magomedov stopped the on-a-roll Pole. “Husarz” couldn’t find a way to beat his opponent and was forced to submit in the first round.
He’ll have to wait a while, though, for his next chance to improve his record. In an interview with InTheCagePL, Oleksiejczuk revealed that the UFC wanted to schedule him for October 3. He named Donte Johnson as a potential opponent, who, according to the Polish fighter, has a 3-0 record in the organization.
“Husarz” decided not to accept the offer. The reason is not a lack of desire to compete, but an injury to his right hand, which he had already reported after his previous performance.
– Yesterday I got an offer for October 3—I don’t remember which event it was anymore. I think my opponent was Donte Johnson, 3-0 in the UFC. “But I reported the injury right after the fight, because I’m having trouble with my right hand, and I need to get it taken care of, since it’s really getting in the way of my training,” said Oleksiejczuk.
Oleksiejczuk does not intend to put off resolving the issue any longer. The Polish fighter told Mick Maynard that he is already in the process of finalizing the details of the surgery. At the same time, he hopes the break won’t last too long. If everything goes according to plan, “Husarz” would like to return to the Octagon in December or January.
– I just wrote to Mick Maynard to thank him very much for the offer, but I’ve reported an injury and am already in the process of scheduling the surgery. I have a pretty serious problem with this hand, but based on what I discussed with the doctor there, I don’t think the rehabilitation will take very long. And anyway, I’d like to fight either in December or January, ” added the Polish fighter.
The question remains: how quickly will the UFC find another opponent for Oleksiejczuk once he is fully healthy? After all, refusing a fight could cause the fighter to be moved to the back of the line for matchups.
Mateusz Rębecki, for example, faced a similar situation. After his bout with Ludovit Klein, the Polish fighter had to wait seven months before returning to the Octagon, where his next opponent was Grant Dawson.
