There will be no rival for Aspinall at UFC 309

Daniel Cormier has commented on the situation at the top of the heavyweight category. According to the former UFC champion, it would be better if none of the protagonists of the UFC 309 fight of the evening suffered an injury.

Jon Jones ‘ fight with Stipe Miocic was scheduled for November 2023. Unfortunately, Jones suffered a serious injury then, and Miocić refused to fight Sergei Pavlovich, who was contracted for the event as an official reserve. Ultimately, the clash would take place a year later, on Saturday night, November 17.

Daniel Cormier believes that in the case of the UFC 309 gala in New York the situation may repeat itself. The former heavyweight champion suggested on his youtube channel that if Tom Aspinall becomes a reserve it is hard for him to imagine that he will make a final appearance at this gala. Cormier assumes that if one of the two, Jones or Miocić, suffers an injury then the other fighter will refuse to skirmish with the Englishman.

– Aspinall has officially become the reserve for this fight, but what if either of them gets injured? Which one of them will say: “OK, I’m fighting Tom Aspinall then”? Which one of them will face the fight?

– Pavlovich was the reserve for the last fight. Jones suffered an injury, Stipe withdrew, Aspinall fought Pavlovich. There is no guarantee that since he is in reserve, any of them will fight him. I’m almost certain that if someone gets injured, Tom Aspinall will fight, but with none of them. None of these guys will fight Aspinall if they don’t have to.

Daniel Cormier believes that Jon Jones should not end his adventure in professional MMA just yet. DC insists that Bones has a few more fights ahead of him, especially a clash with Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight division champion. Cormier believes that at this point no other UFC fighter in the kingdom deserves a fight with Jon.

– It’s sad to hear from Jones, even if it’s just a rumor, “this is my last dance.” It sucks, because I believe he still has some fights ahead of him. With Aspinall first and foremost. I really doubt that anyone else deserves to fight him. We saw what he did to Ciryl Gane.
