Tom Aspinall has given fans optimistic news regarding his health. The UFC heavyweight champion is getting closer to returning to full training and, as he announces, could be back in action soon.
The Briton has not appeared in the octagon since October 2025, when he faced Ciryl Gane at UFC 321. The duel for the belt promised to be excellent, and “Bon Gamin” entered the fight well. Unfortunately, it all ended prematurely – the Frenchman accidentally hit Aspinall with his fingers in both eyes, making the champion unable to continue. The clash was declared a no contest.
After the incident, Aspinall underwent eye surgery and has since been waiting for doctors’ approval to return to full contact.
Aspinall close to return. “Everything is going in the right direction”.
In a recent vlog on his YouTube channel, the champion revealed that his rehabilitation is going according to plan and he may soon get the green light to spar.
– We are just back from the eye hospital. I had tests today and everything is going really, k***a, well, which I’m very happy about. The doctors say that if everything continues to go this way, I’ll be approved for contact training soon. I’m back in the gym, training, but not sparring yet. However, if everything continues to go this way, we will be back,” Aspinall said.
At the same time, the Briton admitted that he is not yet able to indicate a specific date for his return to the octagon.
– There is no specific month. I’m waiting for the doctors’ approval, which they told me should come soon. And the specific date depends on the UFC. The two there have to fight each other first. Let them do their own thing, then recuperate, and when everyone is ready, then we will enter the game.
Aspinall thus referred to the upcoming clash for the interim heavyweight belt between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane. This fight will take place on June 14 at the UFC Freedom 250 gala.
If the champion is granted full contact in the near future, all indications are that he will face the winner of this duel.
