The mere suggestion that Alex Pereira might face Ciryl Gane again was enough to really get Josh Hokit riled up. The UFC fighter can’t understand why the Brazilian, after just one fight in the heavyweight division, would immediately be given such a big fight again.

The discussion was reignited by the official UFC on Paramount+ account on X. A graphic was posted there asking whether Pereira’s next fight could be a rematch with Gane. The post referenced comments made by the Brazilian, who has openly called for another fight against the interim heavyweight champion.

Hokit, however, had no intention of ignoring this suggestion. He reacted very emotionally, making it clear that, in his opinion, even considering such a comparison was absurd.

Josh Hokit lashed out after the suggestion of a Pereira vs. Gane rematch

– It’s f***ing unbelievable that something like this was even published… Seriously?! That son of a b… has had one fight in this weight class, got f…ing destroyed in it, and they’re even considering something like this?! Screw that! – wrote Hokit.

His reaction is part of a broader discussion about matchmaking in the UFC. The main issue is how quickly the organization’s biggest stars are able to return to high-stakes fights, even after painful losses.

Pereira is undoubtedly still one of the most recognizable UFC fighters. Hokit, however, clearly believes that popularity should not carry more weight than athletic achievements and a fighter’s standing within a given weight class.

The Brazilian himself has a completely different opinion on the matter. Pereira recently posted a video in which he stated that a rematch with Ciryl Gane is currently the only fight that makes sense to him.

The former champion also spoke about the referee’s alleged mistakes and illegal strikes that reportedly occurred in their previous bout. He announced, however, that he wants to put those issues behind him and focus on preparing as best as possible if the UFC does indeed decide to schedule a rematch.
