Vicente Luque wants a fight with Jorge Masvidal

Vicente Luque defeated Themba Gorimbo and wants to fight Jorge Masvidal at the UFC gala in Miami.

The past year has been a real rollercoaster of emotions for Vicente Luque, including those not necessarily related to his mere entry into the UFC octagon. The Brazilian was very unlucky, as the fighters he was matched with fell off the schedules one by one.

On December 16, 2023, Luque was scheduled to fight Ian Garry, who withdrew from the event on the day of the gala due to illness. On March 24, 2024, Vicente Luque was scheduled to face Sean Brady in the evening fight of the UFC gala in Atlantic City. In the end, instead of fighting the strong grappler, Luque fought a losing clash with striker Joaquin Buckley.

Things didn’t get any better after that, as Luque didn’t appear at the August gala in Abu Dhabi due to the fact that Nick Diaz was indisposed. That clash was moved to UFC 310 and again didn’t happen, as the older Diaz brother is struggling with drug addiction instead of fighting his rival.

Luque finally entered the cage on Saturday, and his opponent was Themba Gorimbo, who had a string of four straight wins. Vicente quickly submitted the Zimbabwean fighter with an anaconda. After the win, Luque announced that he wants to fight a rival from the top ten rankings. The Brazilian also stressed that there is one name outside the top 10 that interests him. He is referring to Jorge Masvidal.

– I have never stopped focusing on there to become a UFC champion and that is what I intend to do. 2025 will be my run towards the title. I want to return at the Miami gala. I would like someone from the top ten rankings, but there is one exception. If Jorge Masvidal really wants to return, I would love to face him.

Masvidal recently announced his return at the aforementioned UFC gala in Miami. Jorge even had discussions with Michael Chandler about a possible clash in the octagon. Undoubtedly, the next to such a well-known name as Masvidal will be a long one, however, perhaps after an unlucky series, this time it will be luck that smiles on Luque.
