Andrzej Wasilewski makes no secret of the fact that he views the “freak fight” chapter of Tomasz Adamek’s career with great distaste. The promoter appreciates “Góral’s” achievements, but believes that fights against celebrities and influencers don’t befit a boxer who has competed for years in the world’s biggest arenas.
After several years of retirement, Tomasz Adamek decided to return to the sport. He was persuaded to step back into the ring primarily by a very attractive financial offer from FAME, although he fought his first bout after his hiatus at the KSW Epic event. There, he faced Mamed Khalidov and emerged victorious.
Later, “Góral” fully entered the world of freak fights and quickly became one of FAME’s biggest names.
Wasilewski Criticizes the “Freak Fight” Phase of Adamek’s Career
Under the FAME MMA banner, Adamek fought three bouts. First, he defeated “Bandura” after going the full distance, and then he beat “Don Kasjo.” That second bout took place at the National Stadium.
Later, the former world champion took on a far more demanding challenge. He agreed to fight Roberto Soldici. The bout was held under boxing rules and in a traditional ring, which, in theory, could have worked in Adamek’s favor, given his much greater experience in that format.
However, that wasn’t enough to secure the victory. Soldić knocked out “Góral” in the second round.
It was precisely this stage of Adamek’s career that Andrzej Wasilewski clearly did not approve of. In an interview with ringpolska.pl, the promoter offered a very blunt assessment of the former world champion’s decisions.
– He’s a guy who’s had some truly fantastic fights. In my opinion, Tomek is just a lucky guy who was “born with a silver spoon in his mouth”—that’s a whole other issue. But still, he’s had a few great fights in the ring. To go and make such a fool of himself like that—let’s just call it what it is… After all, these fights don’t change anything for him at all. And as far as I know, he’s even losing them, ” said the promoter.
Wasilewski emphasized that his concerns relate not only to the results themselves, but also to the entire setting surrounding “Góral’s” performances on FAME.
– It was sad to watch those interviews and press conferences. These are fights against some celebrities and YouTubers. This was a guy who had fought in some of the world’s biggest bouts. It’s just a shame and a disgrace, he added.
In his promoter’s view, Adamek no longer has anything left to prove in the ring. His reputation and achievements have been built over years of competing at the highest level, which is why Wasilewski believes that further appearances in the world of freak fights add nothing to “Góral’s” legacy and may even work against him.
