Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, assessing Dricus Du Plessis’ fighting style, laughed hard, but ultimately bet on the African in a rematch with Sean Strickland.

Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland will face each other in the fight of the evening at UFC 312 in Sydney. At stake in the rematch between the African and the American will be the UFC middleweight championship belt. The duel is, of course, contracted for five rounds.

Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, i.e. former championship fight rivals, met to discuss the matchup. The fighters, after sparring together, still had enough strength to thoroughly discuss Du Plessis’ second skirmish with Strickland.

Israel Adesanya, wondering who has a better chance, replied.

– If I had to give anyone the edge in this fight it would be Dricus. I know that Sean will probably try to push against him again however, there is one thing about Dricus, he is just so weird. He would unleash powerful punches just to stop my attempts at attacks.

– I remember that I performed a sprawl and my head hit the mat. I wanted to kick him on the ground and thought well get up, so I moved forward and at that moment he suddenly started to bring out hooks and sickles. I had to stop and it completely knocked me out of the assault. I had to reset myself. He is like the best shittiest fighter in the world. He’s just so good that you can’t blame him.

Robert Whittaker echoed and nodded to his former rival with a smile on his face.

– It just works. That bastard… I remember in the first 30 seconds of the fight with Du Plessis I thought ‘boy how slow he is’. And after a while I collected blows to the head.

– Listen people can argue with me, but as Sean was the champion he lost admittedly after a controversial decision, but he lost to a contender. What else could happen in their next fight?

In the end, Whittaker decided that he didn’t see much possibility for American Sean Strickland to do anything different from what he performed in the first bout with the African.

– I don’t see any option for Sean to change his plan and fighting style. That’s how Sean fights, and Dricus also has his style. I don’t know maybe Dricus will score more takedowns because he was doing quite well, while I don’t see what else Sean could do to pull out a win in the rematch.
