In the main event of XTB KSW 121, we saw the new interim heavyweight champion crowned. Štefan Vojčák and Marcin Wójcik faced off for the heavyweight title inside the KSW octagon.

Vojčák entered the bout as the No. 1-ranked heavyweight. The Slovak had recently put on an impressive performance against Arkadiusz Wrzosek, forcing him to submit in the second round, and confirmed his championship aspirations. He was originally scheduled to face Phil De Fries again, but an injury to the champion thwarted those plans.

In this situation, Wójcik seized the opportunity, accepting the challenge and once again finding himself in a position to win the KSW championship gold. The experienced Pole already had two heavyweight fights under his belt, including a victory over Augusto Sakai. In Liberec, “Gigant” tried to stop the surging Vojčák and leave the cage with the interim belt around his waist.

XTB KSW 121: Vojcak vs. Wójcik – Fight Recap

Round 1 — Vojcak tested the distance to Wójcik by reaching out with his arm and throwing kicks. Wójcik blocked a few with his lead leg, closed in with a right hook, and landed a blow to “Mutant’s” head. The Slovak, however, responded quickly. A moment later, he closed in with a flurry of strikes, and “The Giant” found himself in trouble with his opponent right behind him. Vojcak landed painful knees to Wójcik’s thighs. Marcin tried to escape, but his opponent held him tight. Wójcik avoided takedowns; “Mutant” was unable to trip him or throw him to the mat. Instead, he landed a series of knees, but when the clinch broke, he took a hook to the head. Vojcak threatened with a high kick, used his reach to his advantage, and dodged the Pole’s dangerous overhands. Vojcak made a late surge in the final seconds, and Wójcik retreated to his corner, breathing heavily.

Round 2 – Wójcik closed the distance and looked for a chin shot. Vojcak pushed the Pole back to the center of the cage with a series of footwork moves. Wójcik began to find his rhythm and looked good in the stand-up. “Mutant,” however, finally managed to take him down, but Marcin quickly got back to his feet—though with the Slovak right behind him. Wójcik turned to face his opponent and broke free from the clinch. Wójcik threatened with a high kick, which enraged Vojcak. “Mutant” launched a flurry of punches, and the Pole ducked behind his guard. Wójcik was breathing heavily, and a cut appeared on his face. Vojcak had the speed advantage and was beginning to dominate the fight. In the final few seconds, the bell saved Wójcik.

Round 3 – Vojcak waited for the Pole, but quickly went on the offensive. He landed a powerful combination and knocked him to the ground. Wójcik got back to his feet, but his attempt to take the fight to the ground ended in failure. “Gigant” found himself on the mat, and “Mutant” controlled him from above, raining down elbows and hammerfists. Wójcik got back to his feet, but it didn’t do him much good. Vojcak kept the Pole on the defensive time and again and paid little attention to “The Giant’s” successive offensive moves. Wójcik attempted an even more frantic flurry toward the end of the round. The Pole threw his hands wide open; Vojcak didn’t respond, but he also easily escaped the clinch.

Round 4 — Vojcak threatened with kicks and landed a long left after a right. Wójcik went for an exchange, leaving himself open to his opponent. He was testing what he could get away with. “Mutant” was running out of steam compared to the previous rounds. Wójcik landed a good chin shot, but that only fired up Vojcak. The Slovak’s powerful knee struck the Pole in the torso. A devastating kick from Vojcak! Wójcik went down and was unable to get back into the fight!

Result: Stefan Vojcak won by TKO in the 4th round and became the new KSW interim heavyweight champion.
