Yair Rodriguez wants fight with Lopes at UFC 320, is not Mexican

Yair Rodriguez dreams of a championship fight with Diego Lopes at UFC 320 in Guadalajara. The Mexican says he will never accept the Brazilian as a compatriot.

Yair Rodriguez has a clear plan, the UFC‘s top featherweight wants to beat Patricio Pitbull at UFC 314 in Miami. Unsurprisingly, however, the Mexican’s plans go a little further and include other outcomes. Rodriguez wants Diego Lopes to win against Alexander Volkanovski.

Yair Rodriguez believes that if both fighters are victorious then there is only one option left, they will have to fight a summit bout in Guadalajara, Mexico, at the UFC 320 gala. This will be the next edition of Noche UFC, and thus a great Mexican Independence Day celebration.

Rodriguez wants a fight with Lopes, and although privately he has nothing against the Brazilian, he points out that he doesn’t understand why Mexican fans treat him as if he were one of them. Yair has stated that he will never accept Lopes as a compatriot.

– Yes I have a problem with that, but it’s not with Diego. He is doing his job, doing well. However, my problem is with the people. I understand that he is great, he gives exciting fights, but I don’t agree with the attitude of the fans. My compatriots cheer for him, I will never recognize him as Mexican. Ok if he feels that way, cool. If people see him as a compatriot, that’s their business.

– I’ve been busting out my veins for my country for years. If the fans decide that they want to cheer for him as I fight him that is their decision. I did everything to represent my country with dignity. I’ve shed blood, cried and hugged the flag. I couldn’t be more proud to be a Mexican.

It must be admitted that the situation is quite interesting and could make the seeds of conflict between the players appear especially if in fact they both record victories in Miami.
