

Zhang Weili will return to competition at UFC 312, the strawweight champion last defended her belt in April. The Chinese woman explained the break and revealed her plans for the future.
Zhang Weili will face Tatiana Suarez in the second fight of the evening at UFC 312 in Sydney. The experienced fighter will face another defense of the championship belt of the up to 52 kilograms division. Speaking to reporters, Magnum explained why the long break from competing.
It turns out that Zhang had plans in her head for another fight in 2024, however in the end it all came to fruition. The UFC champion has openly admitted that what happens to her career is entirely dependent on the world’s best MMA league.
– Everything that happened last year was beyond my control. I wanted to fight a second fight however, a lot depended on the potential opponent, when and where she wanted to fight me. The UFC had its own plans and deadlines.
Weili confirmed that she appeared at The Sphere facility during Valentina Shevchenko ‘s duel with Alexa Grasso, as she is thinking about moving up a category and more challenges. Asked if the Sydney fight is her last start in the strawweight division, the champion replied.
– If it were up to me to decide, then yes in the case of victory it will be my last fight in this category.
